The 10th Local Dates Festival, organised by the Ministry of Municipality in partnership with the Souq Waqif Management, recorded over 90,600 visitors and 170,403kg sales as it concluded on Thursday.
The festival featured products from 114 local farms from across the country, alongside a series of interactive competitions for the public and farmers. A total of 170,403kg of fresh dates were sold. The Khalas variety topped the list with 75,658kg, followed by Shishi with 33,057kg, Khenaizi with 31,232kg, and Barhi with 18,772kg. In addition, 12,684kg of other date varieties and 2,057kg of fruits were sold.
The organisers praised the festival’s great success, confirming that it achieved its goals of promoting local products and encouraging farmers to develop date palm cultivation and improve production quality. They stressed that the festival, which has become a prominent agricultural event in the country, highlights the ministry’s efforts in promoting agricultural sustainability and achieving food security, as well as reviving agricultural heritage and raising awareness of the cultural significance of dates.
