Indian fans in Doha are upbeat and elated after their favourite star Shah Rukh Khan won the National Film Award- one of the oldest and most prestigious accolades in the Indian film industry. Many in Doha see the achievement as an emotional milestone that boosts their sense of pride and respect towards Khan, who is among India’s most iconic stars and an integral part of the movie culture.

Fans told Gulf Times that the recognition adds much to his invincible aura, which he earned through decades long hard work and dedication. “He has evolved into a brand, not only in India but across the globe. His journey from the film Deewana to becoming an international icon is a testament to relentless ambition, unmatched charismatic personality and fearless choices,” said Hasin Ahmed.

Khan, 59, won the recognition for his dual role in the 2023 movie Jawan. Directed by Indian film maker Atlee, the blockbuster portrayed the current issues in India with a focus on rampant corruption. He was conferred with the award after a legendary career spanning more than 30 years-an achievement that many see as long overdue.

“His journey from telefilms to ruling the silver screen has been nothing short of legendary. In Jawan, he didn’t just play a vigilante, he embodied the voice of the unheard, the fury of the betrayed, and the hope of a nation. And the world took notice,” said Rj Sameer.

“I am overjoyed to hear that he has won a National Award for his incredible performance in Jawan. This film resonated with me on so many levels, and I still remember the thrill of managing to secure four tickets to see it in theaters with my friends. The anticipation was electric and when he made his grand entry on screen, the entire audience erupted in applause, giving him a standing ovation,” said Naziya Amir.

In Doha, the response to his films is nothing short of euphoric. His films are met with thunderous applause. “Every release feels like a festival, with fans gathering to celebrate his artistry. The atmosphere in the theater is charged with excitement, as we cheer for our beloved King Khan. His films have a unique way of bringing people together, and the magic of SRK continues to inspire and unite fans across the globe,” Amir noted.

“The desert air shimmered with pride as the King of Bollywood stood tall, not just as an actor, but as a symbol of resilience, reinvention and relentless passion,” Sameer continued.

“This award is not just for Jawan. It is for Swades, Chak De! India, My Name Is Khan, for every time he made us believe in something bigger than ourselves,” he added.

Khan is one of the most beloved and influential figures in Indian cinema. “He denied the traditional formulas written by Bollywood’s so-called ‘trade pundits’. From redefining stardom to building a brand rooted in charisma, intelligence, and emotional connection, Shah Rukh Khan became much more than just the ‘King of Romance’. He became a heartthrob for millions across the globe,” Hasin added.
