The competitions of the Summer Sport for All Chess Championship for under 18 players, organised by the Qatar Sport For All Federation in co-operation with the Qatar Chess Federation, concluded with the participation of 66 players from different nationalities.

The championship, held at Qatar Chess Training Centre, is part of the "Sport for All Summer 2025" programme, which continues until August 7.

The final results of the championship were: Indian player Sajin Abel claimed first place with 8.5 points, followed by his compatriot Jozy Yohan in second place with eight points, and Turkish player Kalfilo Karim in third with seven points.

Among the Qatari players, Khaled al-Jomaat, a member of Qatar national team, came in ninth place with six points, followed by Ibrahim al-Janahi in the tenth place with the same score, and Hamad al-Kuwari at 11th place.

National team player Layan al-Qassabi came in at 14th place with six points.

Qatar Sport For All Federation chief executive Abdullah al-Dosari said that the tournament saw participation from various age groups, especially youth, reflecting the growing popularity of chess as a mental sport that enhances focus and thinking skills.

He said that chess is one of the prominent community sports activities, and stressed the Federation’s commitment to offering a summer calendar full of diverse events and activities that meet the aspirations of all segments of society.

Al-Dosari also praised the ongoing co-operation with the Qatar Chess Federation, through professionally organised and technically strong tournaments that contribute to promoting the game and expanding its base of players in Qatari society.

Qatar Chess Federation executive director Hamad al-Tamimi said that such tournaments contribute to the spread of chess and the expansion of its player base within Qatari society.
