Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, met with Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East issue, Zhai Jun, on the sidelines of the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held at the UN headquarters in New York.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to enhance relations between the GCC countries and the People's Republic of China to serve common interests.
They also reviewed the outcomes of the trilateral summit between the GCC, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and the People's Republic of China, and exchanged views on the latest developments regarding the Palestinian issue and the ongoing humanitarian tragedy in the Gaza Strip.
The GCC Secretary-General praised China's valuable efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause, including its firm stance in backing the Palestinian people's legitimate rights and its sincere efforts to promote regional stability and a just peace.
Both sides affirmed their commitment to exerting all possible efforts to support the besieged Palestinian population in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the urgent need to deliver humanitarian and medical aid, and to intensify joint efforts aimed at achieving security and peace in the region.
