The African Union Peace and Security Council strongly condemned the announcement by the Sudan Founding Alliance, led by the Rapid Support Forces, regarding the formation of a parallel government in Sudan, and rejected any attempt to fragment the country.
In a statement issued today, the Council reaffirmed its respect for Sudan's sovereignty and territorial integrity, urging all African Union member states and the international community not to recognize the so-called parallel government or provide it with any support.
The African Union reiterated its recognition of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the newly formed transitional civilian government as the two legitimate authorities in Sudan, calling for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire, a return to the negotiating table, and the launch of an inclusive national dialogue.
