Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine and Al Quds Affairs at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ambassador Samir Bakr said Wednesday that the killing of children and women while they attempt to receive aid in the Gaza Strip is a stain on the conscience of humanity and the world. He added that the world was witnessing the daily killing of Palestinians for no reason other than their search for food and water.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA), Bakr said that the overall situation in Palestine is one of ongoing Israeli aggression across all Palestinian territories. He noted the continued suffering in Gaza due to the assault, as well as settler attacks on Palestinian villages in the West Bank, in addition to daily violations of Al Aqsa Mosque by extremists who storm its grounds and desecrate its courtyards.

Bakr also highlighted the importance of the joint meeting held today at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo between the coordination mechanism composed of the League of Arab States, the African Union, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (the Tripartite Mechanism), along with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.

He said that the meeting discussed ways to support the Palestinian cause and people and was notable due to UNRWA’s participation, during which the agency presented an overview of the difficulties it faces in carrying out its mission, not only in Gaza and the West Bank but also in neighboring countries. He affirmed that the three organizations expressed their support for the Palestinian people and their right to live with dignity and to establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
