The first edition of the Bangladeshi Mangoes Festival (Al Hamba Exhibition) at Souq Waqif concluded Monday, after recording sales of around 70 tonnes of mangoes.
The announcement came from the Souq Waqif management after all fresh mango stocks were sold out.
The festival was earlier scheduled to run until Tuesday.
The six-day festival received around 100,000 visitors.
Exhibition general supervisor Khalid Saif al-Suwaidi told Al Rayyan TV that the festival could evoke a good response from the public from the first day.
Held at the Eastern Square of Souq Waqif, the event featured 20 varieties of Bangladeshi mangoes.
Organised by the Private Engineering Office (PEO) in co-operation with the embassy of Bangladesh, it also sold an array of mango products and fresh fruits from Bangladesh.
The expo showcased a selection of renowned Bangladeshi mango varieties such as Amrapali, Langra, Katimon, Khirsapat, Fazli, Gopalbhog, Haribhanga, Lame Mango, Banana Mango, Himashagor and Lakshmanbhog.
Lychee, jackfruit, dragon fruit, guava, Baccaurea motleyana and pineapple were on sale.
The Pakistani Mango Festival will begin in Souq Waqif on July 10, al-Suwaidi added.
