Qatar Stars League champions Al Sadd announced the renewal of team captain Hassan al-Haydos' contract. Al-Haydos, widely regarded as one of the best Qatari footballers of all time, has been with Al Sadd since 1998.
Al-Haydos has been at the heart of Al Sadd’s success for more than two decades. He rose through the club’s youth system before making his senior debut in the 2006–2007 season. Since then, he has played a vital role in guiding the team to numerous domestic and continental triumphs, including league titles and the AFC Champions League. The club emphasised its desire to retain the veteran forward as a recognition of his immense contributions, leadership, and unwavering loyalty to the team.
In a statement on the club’s official website, al-Haydos expressed his gratitude to Al Sadd’s management, saying: “I thank the club for their trust and the renewal of the contract. I am very happy at Al Sadd, which is my home."
The 33-year-old added that the renewed faith shown in him serves as added motivation to continue performing at the highest level. “Leadership is a responsibility, and the Al Sadd players are like my brothers. We have been playing together for a long time. Our goal as a family is one — to always keep Al Sadd at the top,” he said.
Al-Haydos concluded by saying the squad’s collective ambitions for the upcoming season: “I am happy to renew the contract and happy to continue with the Al Sadd family. Our ambitions are great for the next phase, and our goal is to compete for all titles.”
The contract renewal comes just weeks ahead of Al Sadd’s preseason training camp in Spain, scheduled from July 16 to August 4. The camp will serve as a key part of the team’s preparations for both local and continental competitions, with a focus on reaching peak technical and physical readiness before the season begins.
