As part of the partnership between Education Above All (EAA) Foundation as a donor and supervisor and Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) as an implementer, Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital in Mauritania continues to pursue its efforts to provide high-quality health care services for the poorest communities of Boutilimit and neighbouring provinces.

In partnership with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and the Mauritanian Ministry of Health’s (MoH) National Anti-Blindness Programme, QRCS implemented a new phase of cataract treatment campaign at the Kankossa health center in Assaba Province.

During the six-day campaign, a total of 250 surgeries were performed and medical consultations and medications provided for free.

Most of the beneficiaries had to travel 800km to Nouakchott for the surgery.

Since its launch in October 2024, the project has performed more than 7,000 medical consultations and 1,000 surgeries across eight locations: Sélibaby, R’Kiz, Bogué, Timbédra, Kobenni, Atar, Tijikni, and Kankossa.

The project will last until the end of August, with a target of 2,000 cataract surgeries.

During a tour of several public services facilities in Boutilimit, the governor of Trarza visited the Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital and thanked Qatar for its efforts to make health care services more accessible.

Established in 2007, the Hamad Bin Khalifa Hospital is supervised and funded by EAA, a statement added.
