The Al Wakra Municipality, in co-operation with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, has launched a project to convert one of Al Wakra's mosques into a sustainable green mosque.
According to an official statement from the Ministry of Municipality, this is part of the ‘Al Wakra on the Road to Carbon Neutrality’ initiative.
The project aims to increase the operational efficiency of mosques by reducing carbon emissions by using renewable energy and adhering to Gulf Code standards without compromising the comfort of worshippers.
The co-ordination meeting to launch the project was chaired by Jaber Hassan al-Jaber, general manager of Al Wakra Municipality, with the participation of representatives from Awqaf, the Climate Change and Carbon Department (Earthna) and Kahramaa.
A joint working group was formed under the supervision of Al Wakra Municipality. A timeline for implementation was set. The results will be announced later to pave the way for the initiative's expansion nationwide.
