
Qatar suffered a shock defeat to Pakistan in the semi-finals of the AVC Nations Cup Volleyball in Bahrain on Monday. Qatar, ranked world No 23, lost in straight sets 25-22, 25-22, 25-21. The victory avenged Pakistan’s loss to Qatar in last year’s final. Usman Faryad Ali spearheaded Pakistan’s attack with a match-high 18 points (17 attacks, 1 block). Captain Murad Jehan added 16 points, all from attacks, while Murad Khan contributed 7 points. Pakistan will face hosts Bahrain in today’s final, as they chase to claim their first AVC Nations Cup title. In the other semis, Bahrain defeated South Korea 3-2 (25-21, 25-23, 21-25, 18-25, 15-13) in a thriller.
