HE the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), Maryam bint Abdullah al-Attiyah, has reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to promoting and supporting human rights, and also emphasised support for the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation (OIC) and the importance of strengthening its credibility and presence, as well as its role in ensuring the effective implementation of human rights across all OIC member states.

In a statement issued yesterday on the occasion of her election as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC, HE al-Attiyah renewed commitment to working with professionalism, credibility, dedication, independence, and integrity. Drawing on experience leading one of the world's most prominent and transparent national human rights institutions, HE al-Attiyah emphasised a dedication to upholding the principles of transparency and independence, and to carrying out responsibilities independent from any external influence.

HE al-Attiyah was elected as a member of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the OIC, in elections held on the sidelines of the 51st Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers, held in Istanbul, Turkiye.

Her election stands as a testament to the prestigious position of Qatar in advancing and protecting human rights. It further reflects the country's active and constructive role in international forums, as well as the global recognition of Qatari expertise and national competencies in this vital field.
