The Ministry of Transport (MoT) has encouraged the public to use “Park and Ride” facilities and the public transit system to move around conveniently.

“People using private vehicles can park their vehicles at Park and Ride parking spaces that are available in Qatar’s most vibrant areas,” the MoT said in an X post. “They can move around using the public transit system.”

The “Park and Ride” facility provides free parking spaces adjacent to Doha Metro stations at four locations in Al Wakra, Al Qassar, Lusail and Education City.
These places can accommodate over 1,000 vehicles.

The facility is aimed at encouraging vehicle owners to use public transportation systems to and from their destinations to save time and cost, and further improve the services on public roads and at major intersections by achieving smoother traffic flow, less congestion and fewer carbon emissions.

It also adds a significant enhancement to Qatar’s public transportation network and Doha Metro services for citizens, residents, visitors and fans during major tournaments.

The MoT set up “Park and Ride” as part of its Public Bus Infrastructure Programme, fully equipped with an infrastructure that facilitates the operation of eco-friendly e-buses as part of achieving the goals of the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The programme consists of eight bus stations at Al Sudan, Msheireb, Al Gharrafa, Lusail, Al Wakra, Education City, Industrial Area, and West Bay Central and four bus depots in Lusail, the New Industrial Area, Al Wakra, and Al Rayyan.

All these facilities are supported with over 650 charging stations for e-bus operations.

The programme also featured the development of more than 2,300 bus stops in and outside of Doha City.

The programme was implemented to provide an integrated, sustainable public transit network that covers all urban areas across the country and forms a coherent transportation unit that includes public buses, Doha Metro, and tram networks.
