Iranian state media reported on Friday morning that Major General Hossein Salami, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), was killed in overnight Israeli airstrikes targeting the Iranian capital, Tehran.
According to the official Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), the Israeli strikes also resulted in the deaths of several senior Iranian officials, including
Major General Gholam Ali Rashid, commander of the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters of the Iranian Army, Dr. Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, President of Islamic Azad University, Fereydoon Abbasi, prominent nuclear physicist and former head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization.
A senior Iranian source told IRNA that the government is currently finalizing plans for a "decisive response" to the Israeli attacks.
"Iran's response to these strikes will be resolute," the source was quoted as saying.
This development comes amid heightened tensions following reports of an Israeli preemptive strike on Iranian targets, and expectations of retaliatory action. Iranian authorities have yet to officially release detailed statements regarding the full extent of the damage or confirm broader military intentions.
