The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change's (MoECC) Wildlife Protection Department, in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality’s General Cleanliness Department, carried out a large-scale cleanup campaign in the northern areas of the country during the Eid al-Adha holidays.
The campaign focused primarily on the Simaisma Beach and included raising awareness among visitors on the importance of maintaining the local environment, particularly the mangroves and surrounding wildlife areas.
The initiative resulted in the collection and removal of large quantities of waste scattered across the beach, including plastic bottles, bags, and wooden debris, all of which were transported to designated disposal sites.
The Wildlife Protection Department distributed specially designed waste bags to the beach visitors during the Eid holidays to encourage them to adopt responsible practices that contribute to environmental protection.
The campaign focused on educating the public about the harmful conducts and violations affecting the environment, stressing that sustaining the local environment is a shared responsibility among the ministry, government and private sectors, and community members.
This campaign is part of the MoECC's ongoing efforts to preserve biodiversity in coastal and wildlife areas, complementing its continuous initiatives and projects aimed at protecting the local environment. The MoECC confirmed that such efforts to monitor and address any negative impacts on wildlife will go on, calling on the public to cooperate and contribute to maintaining clean beaches.
