The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Marine Protection Department, in co-operation with the General Directorate of Coasts and Borders Security at the Ministry of Interior, has apprehended a sea-goer for possessing several chicks of the black heron birds, which he had illegally collected from their nests.
The chicks were found hidden inside a cooler on his boat. Accordingly, the ministry stressed that capturing chicks of this bird species constitutes a clear violation of the country's hunting and wildlife protection laws. It noted that such bird is considered a native species of environmental importance due to its role in maintaining the balance and sustainability of the marine ecosystem.
Meanwhile, the Ministry called on all fishermen and sea-goers to comply with the laws and regulations governing fishing and wildlife protection, stressing that the conservation of wildlife is a shared responsibility. It affirmed its continued efforts to monitor and enforce environmental regulations to safeguard the nation’s natural resources and biodiversity.
