Al Noor Centre for the Blind, one of the entities of the Qatar Foundation for Social Work operating under the Ministry of Social Development and Family, convened the closing ceremony for the 2024-25 academic year.
HE the Minister of Social Development and Family Buthaina bint Ali al-Jabr al-Nuaimi patronised and attended the event, alongside ministers and the nation’s high-ranking officials, as well as representatives of official and societal entities.
The event featured the honouring of 29 alumni from the centre’s beneficiaries enrolled in inclusive education programs and universities.
Al Noor Centre executive director Mishaal Abdullah al-Nuaimi stated that the ceremony epitomised the accomplishments of a year-long joint work between the beneficiaries and their families.
He highlighted the centre’s vision to empower individuals with visual impairment and enhance their self-independence through an inclusive educational and rehabilitative environment.
The programmes at the centre, al-Nuaimi said, have grown throughout the years through leveraging ancillary technological tools and smart technologies that have significantly supported the beneficiaries in various educational and occupational aspects.
He said that these technologies have remained a critical element in rehabilitation and are constantly updated in partnership with domestic and international institutions.
Al-Nuaimi indicated that beneficiaries perform a phenomenal role in crafting the programme that meets their needs, emphasising that their academic and occupational successes represent the quintessential outcome of this participatory approach, the integration of the centre’s efforts, and the support of their parents.
Beneficiary Alanoud al-Marri, one of the graduates of the centre's education programmes, spoke about her educational journey and the pivotal role that the centre played in empowering her and enhancing her skillsets.
She commended the support exerted by the centre's beneficiaries, which contributed to overcoming obstacles, confronting challenges, and achieving concrete milestones.
Alongside the ceremony, an exhibition titled “Journey of Light” was organised, highlighting the track pursued by the beneficiaries, starting from the evaluation phase, spanning the phases of rehabilitation and inclusion, and culminating in graduation.
The exhibition was structured into sections, notably, the tools of ancillary technology, a corner for occupational rehabilitation, which showcased the foremost products crafted by the hands of the beneficiaries, in addition to artworks and creative pieces reflecting the skills they had acquired during their rehabilitation period.
