A mural titled Meeting of Horizons on the façade of Building No. 43 in Katara Cultural Village was inaugurated by general manager Prof Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti, in collaboration with the embassy of El Salvador in Doha.

The ceremony was attended by El Salvador's ambassador Milton Eduardo Alcevedo along with several other ambassadors accredited to Qatar.

The mural symbolically represents a meeting between two cultures through the national birds of El Salvador and Qatar: the colourful tropical turquoise-browed Motmot of El Salvador and the elegant falcon of Qatar.

Each bird expresses the spirit and identity of its country as they soar together in the same sky, a metaphor for cultural communication and connection between the two nations.

Dr al-Sulaiti expressed his pride in this cultural collaboration, stressing that “Katara continues to embrace art from around the world and to support initiatives that reflect civilisational dialogue and cultural openness”.

“This reinforces the status of the Cultural Village as a bridge between peoples,” he said. “This mural is a valuable addition to Katara’s series of global art projects and reflects our firm commitment to supporting visual arts as a means of dialogue and rapprochement between cultures and nations.”

In his remarks at the event, Alcevedo expressed his deep gratitude for the fruitful cultural co-operation with Katara, describing it as a global cultural landmark that brings together people of the world under the umbrella of art and dialogue.

“The Meeting of Horizons mural represents a message of friendship and understanding between our two peoples,” he said. “It is a living testimony to the power of art in building bridges between cultures.”

“We thank Katara for this wonderful opportunity to showcase our artistic heritage, and we look forward to further joint initiatives that will strengthen the bilateral relations between El Salvador and Qatar,” the envoy said.

El Salvadoran artist Rodolfo Díaz, who created the mural, expressed his happiness at being part of the project.

“Over the past ten years, I have created artworks that speak to the minds and hearts of the people of El Salvador, hoping to inspire positive change in my country,” he said. “It is a great honour to be part of this project, and I now hope to connect with the people of Qatar as well. I completed this piece with much love and passion for you.”
