The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) signed a core contribution agreement to support the core resources of the UN Refugee Agency and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) for the period 2025-2026.
This reflects the strong partnership between the State of Qatar and UN organizations to enable rapid responses to emergencies and ensure continued vital support for underfunded crises.
This came during separate meetings between HE QFFD Chairperson Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani and HE UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, and HE UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk, on the sidelines of the high-level visit currently being conducted by the QFFD delegation to Geneva.
As part of the same visit, the QFFD delegation also visited the Geneva Graduate Institute. HE Sheikh Thani bin Hamad Al-Thani discussed with the institute's Director of Strategic Partnerships Professor Achim Wennmann ways to strengthen the existing partnership between the two sides and explored new avenues for cooperation aimed at expanding access to education, as a driver of sustainable development and a pillar of long-term prosperity.
His Excellency and the QFFD delegation also met with Qatar Scholarship Program students at the Institute, where they had the opportunity to hear firsthand about their experiences and aspirations. This underscores the importance of enhancing human capacity as a means of achieving positive and sustainable change.
These meetings reflect the State of Qatar's deep-rooted support for multilateral diplomacy, respect for international law, and strengthening strategic partnerships that contribute to achieving global peace, achieving justice, and preserving human dignity, all in an effort to leave no one behind and achieve sustainable development.
