Qatar has officially signed a participation contract for the International Horticultural Expo 2027 Yokohama, becoming the first country to conclude such an agreement with the host nation, Japan. Representing Qatar at the signing ceremony was ambassador to Japan and the Commissioner-General of Qatar Pavilion, Jaber bin Jarallah al-Marri.
The Japanese side was represented by Commissioner of the International Horticultural Expo 2027 Koshikawa Kazuhiko and the Secretary-General of the Expo, Masato Komura, which will be held under the theme “Scenery of the Future for Happiness” from March 19 to September 26, 2027, in Yokohama, Japan.
Qatar’s participation reflects its commitment to maintaining an active international presence and supporting global exhibitions and events focused on sustainability and environmental issues. It also highlights Qatar’s contribution to initiatives aimed at addressing global challenges and underscores the deepening strategic partnership between Qatar and Japan, especially in the areas of sustainable development, cultural exchange, and knowledge sharing.
During the signing ceremony, the ambassador reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to participate and co-operate with the Japanese side to ensure the success of Expo 2027 Yokohama and to help achieve its objectives of offering effective solutions to global environmental challenges and promoting sustainable lifestyles for the well-being of future generations.
This participation follows the great success of Expo 2023 Doha, which Qatar hosted for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa region from October 2, 2023, to March 28, 2024, under the theme: “Green Desert, Better Environment.” The event saw broad international participation and attracted millions of visitors from within Qatar and abroad.
Expo 2027 Yokohama represents a continuation of international co-operation in horticultural exhibitions, building on the remarkable success of Expo 2023 Doha. At the closing ceremony of the Doha Expo, Expo 2023 Secretary-General Dr Fayqa Ashkanani officially handed over the expo flag to Deputy Secretary-General of the Japan Association for the International Horticultural Expo 2027 Hayami Sato.
