Under the patronage of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, Qatar University (QU) celebrated the graduation ceremony of the male students of the 48th batch (Class of 2025) at the QU Sports and Events Complex Wednesday.
The female students graduation is on Thursday. The Class of 2025 includes a total of 3,680 male and female graduates.
Wednesday's ceremony was attended by HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani, HE the Shura Council Speaker Hassan bin Abdullah al-Ghanim, a number of ministers, members of the QU’s Board of Regents, vice presidents, and students' families.
His Highness the Amir honoured 153 outstanding students from various academic disciplines, while QU president Dr Omar al-Ansari, presented certificates to the 670 other graduating students.
In his speech on this occasion, Dr al-Ansari, said: “In line with the university’s vital and central role in realising the country’s ambitious vision and comprehensive development plans, and its steadfast commitment to delivering high-quality education and impactful research that contributes to national development, Qatar University has succeeded in providing the labour market with over 68,000 young and qualified professionals. These graduates have made, and continue to make, meaningful contributions to the growth and progress of our beloved nation. The University takes pride in its leading role in preparing a generation equipped to bring about sustainable, positive change in society.”
The QU president thanked His Highness the Amir for his constant support and stated that the continued backing of the Board of Regents serve as a powerful incentive for the university to persist on its path toward academic and research excellence, and to reinforce its role in serving Qatari society.
"The strong connection between QU and the local community—being an integral part of it—has enabled the university’s members over the years to understand the needs of development, anticipate future challenges, and align their efforts and resources toward sustainable progress across human, social, economic, and environmental sectors.
"Recently, the Board of Regents approved QU’s new four-year academic plan, aimed at advancing programme quality and outcomes to better meet labor market needs and national aspirations. In terms of research and knowledge production, QU has redefined its research priorities to align more closely with national needs and the goals of the Third National Development Strategy, aiming to offer effective solutions to national challenges and contribute to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030.
"By April 2025, QU had produced over 4,359 scholarly publications, with more than 80% ranked among the top global categories. QU also obtained 20 new patents, bringing the total number of patents registered under its name to 128.
In the same context, QU has focused on strengthening partnerships with various national institutions, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, the Ministry of Public Health, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, QatarEnergy, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal), and others. These collaborations aim to provide scientific and technical support, consultations, and sustainable solutions—reinforcing the University’s role as a strategic partner in achieving national development goals.
"QU places great emphasis on its social responsibility and is committed to offering specialised training and consulting services to build national capacities and enhance workforce skills. The university strives to promote social and cultural awareness, protect Qatar’s cultural and civilisational heritage, reinforce societal and Islamic values, and celebrate cultural diversity through its partnerships with institutions like Qatar Museums, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, and others."
While congratulating the graduates, Dr al-Ansari urged them to always remember that graduation is not the end of the road, but the beginning of a new chapter filled with challenges and opportunities for personal and professional growth. "Rely on the knowledge, values, and skills you’ve gained, and remain committed to continuous learning, adapting to rapid advancements across various fields, and pursuing your goals with courage and creativity—guided by high moral values.”
The QU president also congratulated the parents of the graduates. "We share your joy today and thank you for the unwavering support and encouragement you have given your children throughout their academic journey. Lastly, I would like to extend my deep appreciation to my colleagues—faculty members, staff, and all University employees—for their sincere efforts and continued dedication, which have played a key role in shaping a generation of well-rounded, innovative, and forward-thinking individuals. May Allah (SWT) grant you all continued success in serving the best interests of our dear nation.”
As a representative on behalf of the Class of 2025, Abdulrahman Hashem al-Sayyed, College of Law graduate, said, “I am a proud graduate of Qatar University, setting sail with confidence to face the waves of life. Today, here we are, sailing with confidence under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani — a man who has led us on the path of glory, no matter how challenging. Indeed, we are proud of your wise leadership. You have made Qatar a beacon of knowledge and a destination for every student and scholar.”
Nasser Ali Abdullah al-Adhba al-Marri, a graduate of the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in International Affairs, delivered the emcee’s address at the ceremony. He said: “Dear graduates, obtaining your university degree does not mean that your journey of learning has ended, nor that you have reached the highest peaks of knowledge. The path of learning never ends—it continues so that we may fulfill our purpose, serve our faith, and benefit our beloved nation.”
QU's 2025 Graduation Ceremony celebrates all QU graduates across various academic degrees, who have completed their graduation requirements by the end of the following terms: Summer 2024, Fall 2024 and Winter 2025, in addition to those who are expected to graduate by the end of Spring 2025.
