Mutamarrid shows grit to win Al Hamla Cup

Mutamarrid bounced back to winning ways quickly in determined fashion in the Al Hamla Cup at the Al Rayyan Racecourse on Thursday.

The seasoned eight-year-old, owned by Injaaz Stud and trained by Jihad El Ahmad, raced in a handy spot throughout before taking the lead in the straight. Under a strong ride from Alberto Sanna, he dug deep in the closing stages to fend off the brave challenge of Maysara, in the silks of Mohammed Abdulhadi S al-Hajria, to win by a head in a Class 2 Local Thoroughbred Conditions race over 1200m.

Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.

In the penultimate race of the day, Hamad Nasser H al-Naimi-owned Saqr won the Purebred Arabian Handicap (80-100) for the four-year-old+.

In the card opener, Sharq Stud’s Billythekid Pompadour won the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 4-6-year-olds. Jockey Pierre Charles Boudot guided the Mohd Ahmed Mohd Hasan al-Sulaiti-trained horse to three quarters of a length victory in the 1900m contest.
