The second edition of the Balmsan Championship, organised by Katara Cultural Village kicked off Wednesday near Halul Island.
The event features 21 teams that secured top positions in the Hadag and Liffah championships, alongside the winner of the 'Biggest Fish' competition from the Senyar Festival 2025.
Balmsan is considered the final stage of the Senyar Festival competitions. The championship derives its name from the main fishing site 'Herr Balmsan,' one of Qatar’s largest and richest marine habitats for oysters and fish.
Jihad al-Jaidah, head of the Senyar Festival’s judging committee, said the championship will conclude Thursday evening, with the dhows returning to Katara Beach the following morning in preparation for the Qaffal celebration tomorrow at 4.30pm to crown the winners.
The team that wins first place will receive a cash prize of QR1mn, while the second-place team will be awarded QR500,000, the third QR300,000, the fourth QR200,000, and the fifth QR100,000.
