Qatar plays key mediation efforts to effectively counter complex and growing global challenges, said Adviser to the Prime Minister and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Dr Majed bin Mohammed al-Ansari.
Al-Ansari’s remarks came during a lecture he delivered Tuesday at the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cyprus on Qatar’s mediation amid global peace challenges.
As per Qatar’s foreign policy, mediation goes beyond being a traditional mechanism for conflict resolution to act as an innovative dynamic process that grasps the conflict complexities and cultural backgrounds and co-operates to build sustainable and comprehensive solutions, he said. Al-Ansari added that Qatar has emerged as a globally reliable and impartial mediator thanks to its proven track record and extensive experience. In this context, he highlighted Qatari mediation efforts in the Afghan crisis, where it brought the views of internal parties closer despite complex regional and humanitarian challenges, and in the Gaza Strip, where it diligently attempted to establish a permanent ceasefire despite the political pressures and malicious media campaigns it faced.
These cases have demonstrated Qatari mediation’s reliance on building trust among parties, and effective engagement in addressing negative external influences, which strengthens Qatar’s position as a key player in efforts to consolidate global peace and security, he concluded.
