Fame Sports Academy, approved by the Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) and the Ministry of Sports and Youth, has launched the 2nd edition of its Doha Tours 3x3 basketball tournament.
The tournament continues until March 13 with the participation of eight teams for both boys and girls, in the age categories of U16 and U21 years.
Captain Yassin Ismail, a former professional basketball player, who was a member of the Qatar national basketball team and a 3x3 world champion, is hosted by the academy on the sidelines of the tournament to to familiarise them with the particulars of 3x3 matches. He competed for the Qatar national basketball team at the 2007 and FIBA Asia Championship 2009.
Dr Dalia Farrag, marketing consultant at Fame Sports Academy, noted that 3x3 is an easy game and can be played by all, which is part of the efforts of the academy to encourage the largest possible number of players.
Every day throughout the tournament the participating teams play a number of matches as part of the efforts to enhance the trend to adopt active lifestyle besides fostering their skills in the game, especially since Qatar is set to host 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The academy has also scheduled a number of entertainment activities for the players such as a shooting, skills and slam dunk competition. The tournament is hosted by QBF with daily matches from 8.30pm until its conclusion on Thursday.
Dr Farrag pointed out that the championship is sponsored by Rayan Water Company and Juniors Company. The winners of the first and second places in each category will get cash prizes and other awards.
Engineer Ahmed Hammouda, general manager of Fame Sports Academy, has expressed his appreciation to the officials of the QBF for providing the opportunity to participate in organising the Doha Basketball Tour 3x3 for the U16 and U21 categories.
QBF Media Committee chairman Dr Khalid al-Qahtani stressed that that the second edition of the championship follows the great success of the first edition. He noted that this tournament is one of the most significant basketball events organised in Qatar in this category.
