The Shura Council participated today in the dialogue symposium organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union via videoconferencing, under the title "Legislative Strategies to End Orphan Trafficking".
The Council was represented in the symposium by His Excellency Mr. Khalid bin Abbas Kamal Al-Emadi, a member of the Council.
The symposium discussed ways to confront the phenomenon of orphan trafficking through effective policies and legislative procedures, with the participation of a number of experts and specialists in the field of children's rights and combating human trafficking.
Within this framework, His Excellency Al-Emadi, member, stressed in his intervention the need to intensify international efforts to protect orphans, especially the orphans of Gaza who are facing harsh conditions as a result of the ongoing conflict, which requires urgent international intervention to secure a decent life for them. He pointed to the pioneering humanitarian role played by the State of Qatar in this field, as it has provided and continues to provide urgent relief aid to the families of Gaza, in addition to its ongoing efforts at the diplomatic level to stop the conflict and protect civilians, including orphaned children who have lost their families due to the war.
His Excellency also highlighted the advanced measures followed by the State of Qatar to ensure the quality of care provided to orphans, by organizing care homes and imposing strict control to prevent children from being exploited or exposed to any risks.
In a related context, His Excellency pointed out the need to work to ensure that children remain in a healthy family environment, and to support families and enable them to care for their children, in addition to encouraging the adoption of the alternative family model from relatives instead of placing children in institutions, due to its positive impact on their psychological and social development.

In a related context, His Excellency Member Al-Emadi stressed the importance of drying up the sources of human trafficking, stressing the need for continuous cooperation with international organizations to combat this crime. The
symposium also addressed several main topics, including the causes of trafficking in orphans, legislative measures to combat it, the role of sending and receiving countries in addressing this phenomenon, in addition to reviewing successful legislative initiatives at the international level. The second session also witnessed an open dialogue with experts, which provided participants with the opportunity to exchange experiences and discuss the challenges facing legislators in reducing these practices.
