A group of Qatari professionals participated in the US Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Programme (IVLP), a professional exchange initiative that fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing between global leaders and their American counterparts.
Covering diverse themes such as sustainability, women’s leadership, ethical media, entrepreneurship, and governance transparency, the programme empowers participants and strengthens US ties with emerging global changemakers.
Among this year’s participants was entrepreneur and advocate for sustainability Ghanim al-Sulaiti, who joined the IVLP on “The Climate Crisis: Working Together for Future Generations”.
“Being part of the IVLP with the US embassy has been an eye-opening experience,” said al-Sulaiti, reflecting on his experience. “Meeting changemakers, founders, and leaders who are driving real impact reminded me why I started this journey with Enbat – to prove that plant-based food isn’t just a lifestyle choice, it’s one of the most powerful ways we can reduce our environmental footprint. “
“Seeing how sustainability is being tackled globally has only strengthened my belief that businesses can and should be a force for good,” he added.
On the theme of “Mentoring Women for Political and Social Leadership”, Aladaam Youth Ambassador Programme manager Khadeja Abuhaliqa found the experience enriching.
“The IVLP deepened my understanding of how mentorship and civic engagement empower women,” she said. “While the US fosters leadership through grassroots activism, Qatar’s approach is driven by policy initiatives and the semi-government sector.”
“This experience reinforced my commitment to expanding mentorship within the Youth Ambassador Programme, equipping young leaders, especially women, with the skills and confidence for political and social leadership,” Abuhaliqa added.
Fellow participant Rooda al-Qebaisi echoed this sentiment.
“The 2024 IVLP has been a transformative experience, offering invaluable insights and fostering connections across cultures,” she said. “It has truly broadened my perspective.”
Sheikha Najla al-Thani, a participant in the “Transparency and Accountability in Government” IVLP, emphasised the critical role of international collaboration in strengthening governance frameworks.
“The IVLP has not only broadened our understanding of the importance of whistleblowing, but highlighted its vital role in fostering transparency and accountability within governance systems,” she said. “By encouraging individuals to come forward with information on misconduct or corruption, we can build stronger, more resilient institutions that serve the public interest and uphold ethical standards.”
The IVLP serves as a vital bridge for US-Qatar relations, enabling leaders from various sectors to engage in discussions that drive innovation and positive change.
These exchanges not only support Qatar’s national development but also contribute to America’s global leadership by building lasting partnerships, enhancing economic ties, and promoting shared solutions to global challenges.
