A considerable number of local farms are fully prepared to meet consumer demand for vegetables during the holy month of Ramadan, which falls this year in the peak of the agricultural season, a number of farm owners said.

Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah they explained that the farms can cover almost 90% of the local consumption during Ramadan, as all vegetables will be available in good quantities.

Local farm produce includes various types of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, zucchini, squash, and leafy greens such as coriander, parsley, radish, and onions. They also pointed out that strawberries will be available in markets during Ramadan.

Sedr fruits and ripe dates which are in high demand during Ramadan, along with other products such as olives, figs, and mulberries will be on display in good quantities soon.

The farm owners confirmed that local honey will be available, as harvesting started two months ago and sees high demand during Ramadan.

Some farms are even offering home delivery services through various online apps.

Basel al-Yafei, a farm manager, expected that there would be no need to import any vegetables during the holy month due to the farms' significant production.

Ali Nouh al-Mutawa, a farm owner, was of the view that the prices offered to farmers are too low to cover production costs. "This has forced some farms to shut down and stop production, as farming is no longer profitable for some."

Mohamed al-Kaabi, another farm owner, said: "We have prepared well for Ramadan, and we provide honey annually for this season. We started harvesting honey two months ago, and we have large quantities, with strong demand for the same."

Farm owner Youssef al-Taher expected local farms to cover 80% to 90% of the market's vegetable needs.
