Activities of the 14th edition of National Sports Day kicked off Tuesday morning in various parts of the country, in an annual tradition and an unprecedented pioneering initiative by Qatar, which aims to enhance the importance of sports and its role in the lives of societies, and to make it an essential part of the daily life of the individual.

More than 250 entities, including ministries, government institutions, bodies, and public and private entities, are participating in the activities of National Sports Day in public parks, gardens, stadiums, fields, clubs, and sports facilities spread throughout the country.

With wide participation from members of society, citizens and residents were keen to practice physical activity and participate in the various sporting events held during the annual event due to their belief in the importance of sports and its vital role in sustainable development, leading to the achievement of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Since early morning, the Doha Corniche, Old Doha Port, Al Bidda, Aspire, The Pearl, Qatar Foundation, Lusail, Msheireb, Katara and other areas, cities and municipalities in Qatar were decorated with many sporting events and activities.

Since its establishment, all ministries, institutions, and governmental and non-governmental bodies have been keen to participate annually on National Sports Day, in which the various regions of the country are transformed into large arenas in which tens of thousands of citizens and residents from all segments of society practice various types of sports.

National Sports Day receives great attention, as all members of society, regardless of their age or group, are keen to spend a day with sports surrounded by a special atmosphere among family and friends, especially since allocating a sports day for the country has contributed to raising awareness of the importance of sports in the lives of individuals and society. Since the launch of the first edition, awareness has increased about the importance of practicing sports for a healthy society, which also contributes to achieving Qatar National Vision 2030, through interest in developing the human element in which Qatar has invested for years.

Qatar is distinguished by an infrastructure that helps in practicing sports activities through the presence of paths for pedestrians and bicycles, and many sports facilities that suit all groups, in addition to the presence of many public parks and gardens distributed throughout the country, which confirms the positive indicators of the growth of sports practice in society.

The importance of organising National Sports Day every year comes from promoting the status of sports, with its many moral and human values and health benefits, and raising awareness among citizens and residents about the importance of sports in daily life, and encouraging them to practice it throughout the year.

Qatar held the first edition of National Sports Day in Feb. 2012, in response to Amiri Resolution No. 80 of 2011 that the second Tuesday in February every year will be National Sports Day. It be considered an official holiday in the country, during which ministries, governmental and non-governmental bodies and institutions organise sports events, in which workers and their families participate to raise awareness of the importance of sports and its role in the lives of individuals and societies.
