The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) is implementing its “Warm Winter Campaign” (#TheirWarmthIsOurDuty 2024-25) through its foreign offices and fellow national societies in the host countries, with donations from the people of Qatar, to provide aid and food supplies to help vulnerable groups withstand winter.
The QRCS office in Lebanon distributed heating oil coupons, in co-operation with the Lebanese Red Cross, for the benefit of 250 families, or 1,250 Syrian refugees, at camps and the host communities in the mountainous areas of Beqaa and Akkar governorates.
In Yemen, the QRCS office started distributing mattresses and blankets, in co-operation with the Yemen Red Crescent Society, for the benefit of 1,643 displaced and poor families in the coldest areas of Amran and Saada governorates, at a cost of $100,000.
As part of the QRCS’s interventions in Afghanistan during the current winter, two phases of winterisation aid were implemented.
Phase 1 reached out to 1,100 families in Helmand and Badakhshan provinces, with each family receiving four blankets and 55-kg food parcel (flour and vegetable oil).
Phase 2 involved the distribution of winterization kits to 445 vulnerable families worst hit by the harsh winter in Logar province, with each family receiving four blankets and one tarpaulin.
At a total cost of $228,585 (QR 833,192), the project was implemented in partnership with the Afghan Red Crescent Society, in co-ordination with local authorities in the target provinces.
A total of 16,500 blankets are being distributed to refugees and the host communities in 13 districts of Bangladesh, in co-operation with the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
Together with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organisation, the QRCS distributed 15,000 blankets in North Gaza and Gaza City, to alleviate the suffering of 5,000 displaced families at shelter camps during the bitter winter.
In co-operation with the Red Crescent Society of Kyrgyzstan, charcoal rations were distributed to 500 vulnerable families to ensure their warmth and protection against the bad weather.
In Kosovo, 1,875 blankets were distributed to 470 poor families, to protect them against the cold weather and improve their living conditions, in co-operation with the Red Cross Society of Kosovo.
