The Student Activities Department at Qatar University (QU), in collaboration with Qatar Cancer Society, has concluded the World Cancer Day competition.
The event was designed to emphasise the significance of raising awareness about cancer, prevention strategies, and offering support to patients, survivors, and their families. It also aimed to educate the public on cancer risk factors, the importance of early detection, and the community’s role in alleviating the impact of this illness.
Competitors helped raise awareness about cancer prevention, the significance of routine medical check-ups, providing support to patients, and fostering a positive atmosphere for both patients and their community. They also highlighted the risk factors associated with cancer and ways to avoid them.
The event highlighted the contributions of organisations, associations, and individuals in advancing cancer research and enhancing patients’ quality of life, while emphasising the necessity of maintaining a healthy lifestyle to lower cancer risk. An awareness dialogue session was conducted to address important topics concerning cancer.
Abdullah al-Mulla, director of the Student Activities Department, said: “This initiative is part of our continuous commitment to enhance health awareness among students and the broader university community. The event serves as a significant opportunity to raise awareness about health and emphasise the critical role of prevention and early detection of cancer, which are vital in decreasing the disease’s prevalence and improving treatment results.”
“The event was designed to encourage students to embrace healthy habits and provide psychological and moral support to patients through awareness and engaging activities. We believe our responsibility extends beyond academics to fostering a generation that is conscious and accountable regarding social issues,” he added.
