The 'Independent Media Initiative,' a pioneering program led by the award-winning US-based media companies, AL-Monitor and Semafor, holds its second three-day workshop at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies (DI).

The event opened on Monday is being organised with the Journalism Masters Degree Program at the DI and will conlcude on Wednesday.

The Independent Media Initiative, a multi-year program, is held three times a year at Doha Institute, and also includes students from Northwestern and Qatar Universities, in addition to those from DI.

The workshops cover many topics, including audience development, digital methods and techniques, coverage of conflict zones, newsrooms foundations, journalism in the age of artificial intelligence, and the fundamentals of business and economic reporting, as well as key methods and techniques for fact-checking and investigative reporting.

The workshops include significant interaction between students and the workshop instructors on the best practices of independent media.

A total of 21 students from journalism and media programs from various educational and professional institutions in Qatar participated in the workshop.
