The US Senate on Saturday confirmed Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense, following a 50-50 tie vote that was broken by Vice President J.D. Vance, who cast the deciding vote in favor of Hegseth's appointment.
The confirmation marks a significant victory for President Donald Trump, who faced strong opposition from Democrats and even some Republicans over Hegseth's nomination.
