“Arabic needs to be our focus in the coming period”, a senior Qatar Foundation (QF) official has said. “Arabic is our language, it is our heritage, it is our strength and we need to do everything to support the Arabic language everywhere,” Maryam al-Hajri, director of Partnerships at QF’s Pre-University Education told Gulf Times on the sidelines of QF’s International Day of Education event at Qatar National Convention Centre on Thursday. The event was held under the theme ‘Education is Everyone's Responsibility’.
She added that QF’s ‘Let's Speak Arabic’ campaign, which was launched at the event, will focus on schools, communities, educators, students and parents. “It’s going to be a campaign that is happening year long. We will be collaborating with various entities to build resources and activities and highlight all of this in the media so that we can move forward and support Arabic in a better way,” she said.
Al-Hajri, noted that the participants at the accompanying exhibition came to showcase that they support education in one way or another.
She noted that QF is collaborating with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education on building resources to support the Arabic language in international education. She noted that UNESCO collaborates with QF all the time and supports different initiatives. “We have chosen the theme ‘Education Is Everyone's Responsibility’. This is what we're trying to highlight and to work with the different organisations to get them to participate and do their role and their responsibility in supporting education. So it's not just the schools, the universities or the libraries. All the institutions, companies and individuals need to come together, do initiatives and participate in one way or another to support education in Qatar,” she added.
