Qatar National Day (QND) 2024 celebrations at the Katara – the Cultural Village started Sunday evening with the participation of various institutions and entities.
The festivities include a variety of activities appealing for all visitors of different age groups and interests. The events will continue daily from 3pm-9pm, until December 18 alongside the Katara Corniche.
The celebrations include musical performances such as the traditional Qatari Ardha and a performance by the Qatar Armed Forces, presented in collaboration with the Centre for Military Performances and Music.
A Street Arts Festival is also underway, featuring a number of talented artists and musicians. There are heritage activities, including contributions from Al-Galayel and Al Gannas Qatari Society, with shows of falconry and Saluki hunting.
Tawasol Company is participating with heritage-focused activities and an exhibition highlighting Qatar’s achievements. Local families are offering traditional foods and handmade products.
The Al Thuraya Planetarium is hosting daily film screenings on the space theme, featuring three films: Journey Through Space, Eight Planets in the Solar System, and The Stars.
On Monday, the schedule includes The Small Perfect Planet at 4pm, The Stars at 5pm, and The 3D Astronaut at 6pm. Entry requires booking through the website, and the screenings are open to all age groups.
The Qatari Fine Art Exhibition was inaugurated at Building 19 as a permanent exhibition, showcasing 47 artworks, including paintings, ceramics, and Arabic calligraphy by 17 artists.
A daily theatrical performance titled Suhail and Thuraya is also part of the events, featuring traditional songs, storytelling, and competitions for children. The Al-Dana Girls Centre is contributing with a musical operetta for kids.
The Visual Arts Centre is presenting a special National Day mural, while Qatari and expatriate artists are participating in Qatar: A Nation of Art competition, showcasing artworks that express their love for Qatar.
On the southern side of Katara, hot air balloon displays are being conducted in collaboration with Safe Flight Solutions, while the Moto Art event is taking place across Katara, where artists paint national symbols and slogans on cars.
For the eleventh consecutive year, the Book of Loyalty is on display, showcasing messages of devotion from previous years while allowing visitors to express their love for Qatar.
The Oud Center will host musical evenings on December 17 and 18 in Building 6.
The Katara Corniche Theater will Monday feature a seminar titled Qatar Through the Eyes of Its People, with participants including Dr Youssef Ali al-Kazim, Abdulaziz Ahmed al-Maarafi, and Haya al-Nuaimi.
A poetry evening in celebration of Qatar will take place tomorrow featuring poets Ali Mirza, Mohamed al-Sada, and journalist-poet Mostafa Matar. The event will be moderated by poet Mohamed al-Shahwani.
