Dubawi Spectre, in the silks of Mansoor Ebrahim al-Mahmoud, won the Brooq Cup at the Al Rayyan Racecourse on Wednesday.
Dubawi Spectre, owned by Mansoor Ebrahim al-Mahmoud, recorded his second straight victory when he came with a late rattle under jockey Marco Casamento to overhaul the long-time leader Account to win the feature race of the day.
In the process, the four-year-old gelding also completed a double on the card for trainer Jassim Ghazali. The veteran trainer was in the winners’ enclosure when his ward Dhi Qar Zakhir, in the colours of Ali Salem a-Marri, comfortably won the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for the three-six-year-olds by six lengths.
Rashid Mohammed al-Athba-owned and trained Colnago, under jockey Maikon De Souzawon the Thoroughbred Handicap (60-80) for three-year-old+ 1200m race.
Al Mustafiz, in the colours of Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari and trained by Julian Smart, emerged champions in the Purebred Arabian Handicap (0-75) for three-year-old+ contest.
Jockey Abdulla Rashid al-Mansoori rode the four-year-old colt to a comfortable 7½ lengths victory over Time Form Syndicate’s Almashahar.
