HE Minister of Culture Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Hamad Al-Thani crowned the winners today of a nabati poetry contest. The competition was organized by the Ministry of Culture at Darb Al Saai in Umm Salal Mohammed, spanned nine months.

The Kuwaiti poet Sultan bin Bandar Al Ajmi was announced the winner, receiving a prize of one million Qatari Riyals. Meanwhile, the other eight finalists each received 100,000 Qatari Riyals, bringing the total prize money to QR 1.8 million.

The nine poets who competed in the final round were selected from previous rounds and delivered poems on the theme of Participation in Qatar National Day Celebrations.

In his remarks, Director of the Qatar Poetry Center poet Shabeeb bin Arar Al Nuaimi highlighted that the competition showcased noble creativity over the nine months, attracting hundreds of poets from various countries and generations. These poets conveyed the values of ethics and morals through their verses, turning their poetry into a platform for expressing sincerity, loyalty, and other commendable virtues reflective of the region's rich heritage.

He praised the exceptional talent of the finalists, emphasizing that the competition was not merely a platform for showcasing poetry but also a tool for promoting moral values and contributing to community development.

The judging panel described Sultan bin Bandar Al Ajmi's winning poem as distinguished by its diverse styles and elevated poetic imagery, creating artistic masterpieces with profound national sentiments.

Al Ajmi for his part said that it was a great honor to win the competition. He highlighted how strong the level of the competition and dedicated his win to everyone who supported him.
