HE the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Ghanem bin Shaheen al-Ghanem honoured the winners of the Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani Holy Qur'an Competition. During his speech at the ceremony, Malallah Abdulrahman al-Jaber, chairman of the organising committee, said the competition reflects the keenness of Qatar, represented by Awqaf, to serve the Holy Qur’an, to care for its memorisation, recitation and interpretation and to encourage the public to embrace it.

“It sends a message to the youth of this nation confirming that embracing Qur’an brings health to the body, abundance in livelihood, light on the path and development of the abilities. Anyone who follows the competition’s progress over its three decades clearly notices the progress and development that the competition witnesses year after year in its administrative and technical system especially the multiplicity of its branches inside and outside Qatar and the revival of participation with multiple Quranic narrations,” he said. He noted that the competition is a prominent landmark among Qura’nic competitions while becoming the oldest, most numerous and highest prize winning competition in the Islamic world.

The official explained that around 800 male and female Qataris took part in the competition. The function also marked the felicitation of the jury members of the competition, a statement from the ministry added.
