The first edition of the Katara Antique Exhibition will conclude on Tuesday, with the fifth open auction. Katara Publishing House, the organiser, will be holding this event annually.

The third open auction at the exhibition yesterday featured 56 rare antiques and artifacts. They included rare editions of Palestinian metal coins from 1927, Qatari banknotes from the second issue dating back to 1980s, sets of silver-rimmed vases, and a variety of functional antique boxes, including old Qatari pilgrimage boxes and gift boxes.

Among the most unusual artifacts and rarities exhibited in the third auction were a mammoth tusk, pitchers featuring the image of Sultan Ahmed Mazafar Shah of Iran, a license plate number belonging to the Omani police dating back to the 1960s, old sewing machines in good condition, and military compasses from 1989 issued to the joint forces participating in the Operation Desert Storm.
