The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has reminded pedestrians to cross the roads only through the designated areas. “For your safety, cross the road from designated pedestrian areas, and make sure to adhere to traffic signals.
Pedestrian safety is a shared responsibility,” MoI said in a post on its official X account.
MoI is recording violations of traffic rules by pedestrians in a move to preserve lives and strengthen discipline. Illegal pedestrian crossing continues to be one of the causes of concern when it comes to road traffic accident deaths in Qatar.
arlier, a report from the Qatar Centre for Transport and Traffic Safety, under the College of Engineering at Qatar University, revealed that pedestrians constitute one-third of fatalities in road traffic accidents in Qatar. The authorities have urged the pedestrians to abide by the pavements and the dedicated crossing for them, besides ensuring there is no approaching vehicle from either side and maintaining eye contact with motorists during crossing whenever possible.
