Huawei recently hosted an award ceremony in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE) to honour the winners of the national and regional Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 Middle East and Central Asia (ME &CA).

The ceremony was attended by MoEHE representatives, and deans and professors from participating universities to celebrate the achievements of Qatar's brightest talents in the field of ICT (information and telecommunications technology).

The seventh edition of Huawei's flagship ICT talent development initiative saw more than 27,500 students from over 600 universities across 21 countries in the Middle East and Central Asia engaged in the competition, showcasing their skills and prowess.

The participating entities from Qatar included Qatar University, the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST), the Community College of Qatar (CCQ), Hamad Bin Khalifa University, and Lusail University.

The first place in the regional competition held in Bahrain ibn December was clinched by the Cloud team from Qatar.

Their performance not only underscored their dedication and proficiency, but exemplifies Qatar's growing prominence in the global ICT landscape.

The team comprised Hadieh Abdulmajeed and Mohamed Mouemel Abdallahi from Qatar University and Saba Wynne from the UDST.

The Cloud team from Qatar thus earned the privilege to represent the country in the upcoming finals of the Huawei Global ICT Competition.

Scheduled to take place in Shenzhen, China next month, this prestigious event will bring together top talents from around the world, providing a platform for networking, learning, and collaboration on a global scale.

This year, the national prize for the Network Track went to the team comprising Ali al-Mehaizaa (from the CCQ), and Amna Khatoon and Saad Ahmad Khan (from the UDST).

"The ICT Competition serves as a vital platform for students to showcase their skills and creativity,” said MoEHE Assistant Undersecretary Dr Hareb al-Jabri. “We commend Huawei for their efforts in nurturing ICT talent and look forward to continued collaboration in advancing education and technology in Qatar."

"We are thrilled to witness such remarkable talent emerging from Qatar and are proud to support their journey in the ICT field,” said Huawei Technologies LLC chief executive Alex Zhang in a statement. “This competition is a testament to the incredible potential of young minds and reaffirms our commitment to fostering innovation and excellence."

The primary objectives of the ICT Competition are to foster innovation among university students, elevate their competencies, and advance their skill sets.

Through this initiative, Huawei remains committed to nurturing the next generation of ICT professionals, equipping them with the tools and knowledge essential for success in the digital age.

Through initiatives like the ICT Competition, Seeds for the Future and Huawei Internship programme, Huawei continues to demonstrate its unwavering dedication to empowering youth, driving innovation, and accelerating digital transformation in Qatar and beyond.
