Qatar University (QU) hosted esteemed scholar Dr Zakir Naik as part of its ongoing campaign 'Ramadan: Our Light and Knowledge,' organised by the Public Relations and Communication Administration and the Mishkat Qur'an Club throughout the holy month.

The campaign features a variety of religious events and lectures.

Dr Naik's lecture, titled 'Dawa or Destruction?,' witnessed a large audience including university officials, faculty members, staff and students. The lecture, held on the university campus, provided valuable insights into the importance of Dawa in Islam.

Dr Naik emphasised the role of every Muslim in Islamic propagation, irrespective of their professions, specialisations or social roles. He also highlighted the significance of higher education institutions in Islamic propagation, presenting part of his professional career that led him to pursue the field of Islamic advocacy over the past years.

In a statement regarding the event, Eatidal al-Qatami, director of Communications and Public Relations Department, said: "The lecture aimed to enhance spiritual and cultural awareness during the blessed month of Ramadan, shedding light on the importance and impact of invitation in individuals' lives and society. It also provided a unique opportunity for our students and university community to engage with one of the foremost preachers in the Islamic world, who enjoys a large fan base. We believe that the participation of prominent figures like Dr Zakir Naik plays a significant role in stimulating critical thinking and offering different perspectives on important contemporary issues for our students and the university community as a whole.”

Ali Hassan Jamal, vice president of the Mishkat Qur'an Club, said: “The primary goal of the Mishkat Qur'an Club's activities is to connect QU members with the Qur'an, as Dawa is one of the purposes brought by the Qur'an. It is part of the club's core objectives, and we work towards our goal through continuous lectures and seminars."
