As part of the 29th Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Bin Thani Holy Qur'an Competition, a Qur’an learning session was held Saturday at the Grand Mosque. According to a statement from the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf), the session was attended Qur’an reciters and scholars including Abdul Hamid al-Khedar al-Hatmi, Saleh al-Ansari and Abdul Basit Abdullah Abu Al-Azm. The session witnessed the recitation of verses from Surat Al-Kahf. Sheikh Moaz Al Qasimi led the Qur’anic session and explained the rewards for reciting Qur’an.
The Qur’anic learning sessions are among the activities accompanying the Sheikh Jassim Bin Mohamed Bin Thani Holy Qur'an Competition. The activities encourage memorisation and contemplation of Qur’an.
The Baraem category of the competition has started at the Grand Mosque with the participation of Qataris and residents in memorising one of the last five parts of Qur’an. The mosque hosts the male contestants from 3.30 pm. The competition for expatriate students will continue until March 17 while the competition for citizens will be on March 18 and 19.
Tests for female contestants are held at the headquarters of the Women’s Memorisation Division in the Al Waab area from 7. 30 pm. The tests began on March 12. Various panels are supervising tests of contestants.
The organising committee of the contest said that the evaluation process would utilise an electronic system initiated by the Ministry's Information Systems Department several years ago. Prize money will be awarded to the winners.
According to a statement from Awqaf, the parents and contestants praised the organising committee for hosting the event with all facilities noting that the competition can encourage the habit of memorising and learning Qura’n.
