The International Women’s Day was celebrated by World Malayalee Council (WMC) Qatar with veteran Malayalam actress Mallika Sukumaran as the chief guest.
She inaugurated the event with a cake-cutting ceremony along with the members of WMC Qatar Women’s Forum. The popular actress was honoured during the event for her 50-year journey in the Malayalam film industry. She addressed the gathering with anecdotes of her life interspersed with humour and humility, and enlightened the audience on the importance of education, self-reliance and honesty in all endeavours.
She remarked that empowerment comes from within and emphasised the role of women as mothers in creating strong and capable individuals regardless of gender. She held the audience captive with her simplicity and honest discourse.
WMC Qatar general secretary Kajal Moosa welcomed the gathering. Chairman V S Narayanan and president Suresh Kariyad spoke.
