Katara - Cultural Village inaugurated three diverse art exhibitions that bring together various creative experiences, enriching the artistic and cultural scene in the country as part of the ongoing Ramadan activities.
The exhibitions explore the meanings of the Holy Qur'an verses and the true values of the holy month. The opening was attended by Katara's deputy general manager and Human Resources Department director Saif Saad al-Dosari, Turkish ambassador Dr Mustafa Goksu, a number of artists and art and culture enthusiasts.
The first exhibition, titled "Spirit of Arabic Calligraphy," by Iraqi artist Bashar Ali, is being held at Building 18, Hall 2. The exhibition celebrates calligraphy, and creatively depicts the fruits and plants mentioned in the Qur'anic verses by Arabic letters, which were used to write the Holy Qur'an, through paintings that employ various techniques and materials.
The artist integrates the beauty of Arabic calligraphy with visual art, creating compositions of images, verses, and supplications using different techniques and materials such as acrylic, gold leaf, and oil colours. The artworks pay high attention to detail, using colours derived from soil and plants, offering visitors a unique experience. There are on display 27 related works by the artist, who expressed his happiness at seeing his work on display at Katara.
The other exhibition titled "Remembered in the Qur'an" is being held at Katara Building 18 in collaboration with Qatar Photography Center, featuring a selection of different photos, representing various topics mentioned in the Holy Qur'an. It aims to highlight the greatness of the Creator, promote religious understanding, and encourage contemplation of Allah's creations in the universe. It also includes Qur'anic texts to reinforce the religious connection between the Qur'anic verse and the images, providing visitors with an experience that encourages reflection on Allah's creations in the universe. The exhibition is considered a distinctive educational and cultural opportunity during Ramadan.
The third exhibition "World Mosques in Postcards" was inaugurated at Katara Building 22. It features a diverse collection of distinctive postcards and stamps showcasing famous mosques in Qatar, such as Al Shyoukh Mosque, Al Qubaib Mosque, Omar Ibin Al-Khattab Mosque, AbuBakr Mosque, Educational City Mosque, and Katara Mosque. It also includes postcards of famous mosques and religious institutions in Asian, European, and African countries, such as Turkiye, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Singapore, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Mali, Cyprus, and Bosnia.
In the meantime, Katara International Ramadan Chess Championship started Thursday at Katara Hall 15 and set to go on until March 23, from 9pm to 2.30am daily. The championship has 88 players representing 14 countries, and on the first day, the first round of matches was played in the classic chess style with nine rounds according to the Swiss system, "60 minutes + 30 additional seconds for each move.
