The Doha Film Institute (DFI) has announced that accredited Qumra 2024 members will have the opportunity to access master classes online until March 17, featuring insights from acclaimed filmmakers worldwide.
According to DFI, these sessions, conducted by six distinguished Qumra 2024 Masters, promise to be a treasure trove of creative inspiration and practical advice for budding filmmakers. The sessions aim to provide invaluable insights into the art and craft of filmmaking.
The Qumra 2024 Masters roster includes personalities such as Leos Carax, Claire Denis, Atom Egoyan, Martín Hernandez, Jim Sheridan and the celebrated actor-producer Toni Collette.
Through these online master classes, they share their directorial expertise with Qumra delegates and registered participants. The recent 10th edition of Qumra, which ran from March 1 to 6, was held at the Museum of Islamic Art.
This edition of the event brought together film auteurs and international industry experts. It featured exclusive mentorship sessions, workshops, and screenings of impactful films, all geared toward nurturing emerging voices in cinema.
DFI highlighted that more than 200 industry experts participated in the event, along with talents associated with more than 40 Qumra projects hailing from over 20 countries. Among these projects were 13 feature narratives, 11 documentaries, 11 shorts, and seven web/TV series in various stages of production.
This year’s Qumra projects featured a strong representation from Qatari or Qatar-based directors, with 11 projects directed by nationals. This underscores the growing influence and creativity within Qatar’s growing film industry, DFI said.
