The "Environmental Sustainability in Qatar .. Achievements and Challenges” book, was launched Sunday under the patronage of the Ministry of Municipality at a special event. It was also marked by an awards ceremony to recognise the companies which have been following sustainability norms and applying the best sustainability standards in Qatar.
The event at Al Bidda Park on the sidelines of the International Horticultural Expo Doha, was organised by Business Class Advertising Group. The function was attended by HE Abdullah bin Hamad al-Attiyah, Minister of Municipality, Hamad Issa Abdullah, Undersecretary for Land Transport Affairs, Ministry of Transport, HE Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim al-Thani, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Aamal Holding, businessmen, executives, dignitaries and media professionals.
The awards ceremony was one of the major attractions of the event. Excellence awards were delivered to local companies that implemented the best sustainability standards in all vital sectors and that have succeeded in applying the highest standards of environmental protection to reach sustainable development in their facility. In addition, sustainability awards were presented to companies in various categories - small and medium enterprises, real estate, banks, automobiles, and ports.
The companies and corporations were awarded according to different categories in sustainability, and they are : Barwa Real Estate for the Best Company in Real Estate Sector, Alfardan Group for Best Family Company, Abdulghani Motors for Best Green Initiative, Mawani Qatar for the Best Company in the Maritime Transport Sector, Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy for Best Recycling Programme, Katara Hospitality for the best company in Hospitality Sector, Mowasalat for Best Company in Transportation Sector; Nasser Bin Khaled for Best Company in Automotive Sector; QTerminals for Best Company in Ports Management; Ahli Bank for Best bank in Qatar, Ansar Group, for Best Company in Retail Sector. In addition, the Ministry of Transport was honoured on the sidelines of the awards ceremony for its great efforts in the field of sustainability and enhancing the sustainability of the air, sea and maritime transport system.
The book 'Environmental Sustainability in Qatar .. Achievements and Challenges' reviews the achievements of Qatar in sustainability in all its economic, social and environmental aspects within the framework of its keenness to continue the march of modernity and development. The book also monitors by analysis and records the ability of Qatari institutions to achieve sustainable development and address climate change issues, as well as the achievements of Qatari companies in environmental sustainability.
The book discusses a number of important issues related to sustainability, including the Qatar National Strategy for Environment and Climate Change. It also discusses the development of sustainable cities in Qatar and highlights the green economy, which is the pillar of investment in Qatar's future.
