The 57th meeting of the General Cultural Committee of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) States was held at the headquarters of the General Secretariat in Riyadh, under the chairmanship of the State of Qatar. Qatar's delegation to the meeting was headed by Director of the Department of Culture and Arts at the Ministry of Culture Maryam Yassin al-Hammadi, within the presidency of Qatar to discuss the cultural strategy of the GCC countries 2020-2030. The meeting held earlier this week discussed numerous Gulf cultural topics, activities and events aimed at enhancing cultural co-operation among member states and following up on the implementation of the decisions issued by the 27th meeting of the Ministers of Culture of the GCC countries. Additionally, discussions were held on the annual plan for joint cultural events and activities, regulations and systems for joint cultural work, the account for joint cultural activities, international cooperation in the cultural field, the GCC Centre for Translation, Arabization and the Promotion of Arabic, cultural statistics platform and the vision for developing joint work between the culture and tourism sectors in the GCC countries.
The meeting emphasized the importance of protecting ethical, religious, and family values in Gulf societies. It also discussed the proposal by the General Secretariat regarding the exchange of experiences in the fields of work and training, as well as the proposal by Saudi Arabia to establish an agency dedicated to the affairs of book exhibitions and publishing in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
