Al Thumama Racing-owned and Mohamed Hussain Afroz-trained X Force won the Fuwairit Cup at the Al Rayyan Racecourse yesterday.
The seven-year-old bay gelding scored for the second time in a row and emerged a comfortable one-length winner under jockey Szczepan Mazur, in the 1100m race for the Thoroughbred Open Handicap (three-year-old+), who completed a double on the card. Al Rufaa Racing’s Townsend Manor came second, while Mohamed Abdulhadi al-Hajri-owned Selected finished third.
Mazur also guided Al Jeryan Stud’s AJS Falak to victory in the Purebred Arabian Novice Plate for four–year-old+ earlier in the day. X Force won the thoroughbred open Sprint Cup on February 16.
In the penultimate race of the day, Triple Two Racing-owned and Gassim Ghazali-trained Fifty Grand Slater gave jockey Marco Casamento a double by winning the 1100m contest for the three-year-olds Thoroughbred Handicap (60-80).
Casamento was in the winners’ enclosure earlier in the day when he guided Abdullah Nasser al-Attiya’s Taaghi to victory in the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for four-six-year-olds.
Jockey Anas al-Seyabi guided Al Warkah, in the colours of Sheikh Faisal bin Hamad bin Jassim al-Thani, to victory in the 1700m race for the Local Thoroughbred Handicap (four-year-old+). Major General Ruki Karusisi, Commander of Special Operation Force of Rwanda, crowned the winners of the meeting’s feature race.
