Fifth seeds Alejandra Salazar and Tamara Icardo defeated World No 2 pair Bea Gonzalez and Delfi Brea 2-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the quarter-finals of the Ooredoo Qatar Major Padel at the Khalifa International Tennis & Squash Complex yesterday.
The match was an exciting battle that went to three sets. Spanish duo Salazar and Icardo, take on compatriots Gemma Triay and Claudia Fernandez in the semi-finals today. Third seeds Triay and Fernandez beat Sainz Pelegri and Llaguno Zielinski – also from Spain – 6-1, 6-3 in the last eight.
On the men’s side, there have been many surprises. Juan Lebron and Ale Galan were eliminated as the pair lost to Javi Garrido and Mike Yanguas 6-7, 7-6, 6-4 on Tuesday.
At the bottom half, however, there was a winning debut for Arturo Coello and Agustin Tapia, who won 6-2, 6-4 against Cruz Belluat and Fernandez.
